Hi Everybody!
We'd like to open a new department for web site design, but I know nothing about PRO graphics software. Can you tell me what software to choose and what it will cost me?
Thanks in advance for your help!

The first and most obvious program to get would be Adobe Photoshop. That's going to run you about $650.

From there it kind of depends on what your staff's abilities include. Do you have flash programmers? You'll need something like Flash Pro 8 for example.

Find out what your staff needs in order to do what they are best at and it should become fairly clear.

I recently found some free software called the GIMP, which believe it or not does stand for something. It's downloadable from gimp.org. It's very good. It's what I use.

Hope this helps

Gimp = GNU Image Manipulation Program

Thats the one thanks PwnXor. Felt like a bit of an idiot not remembering it. It's a good program and is as capable as any of the commercially available image manipulation programs. It's a little strange to learn but I find it easier to use than others. It's also very stable and being updated regularly because its an open source software.

You should get the Abobe line or products such as Dream weaver, paint shop pro, etc.

If you want to try to do it cheap then GIMP, but not you will need an HTML editor or learn html, css, dhtml, javascript and so forth.

If you want to really make some good web code and designs, then you might want to check out http://www.microcyb.com. They have some tutorials and stuff and can help you out pretty good.

Other places to go to would be for Macromedia Flash and stuff would be Google.
