I think the most romantic thing could be the small things you do for your lover. Like taking the trash out with out being asked or giving a flower to you guy or girl out of the blue. I feel that people tend to only think of the big things not the small things and small things add up

I'm glad this thread popped up because it reminded me that I've been somewhat neglectful. I think a lot of guys tend to think that it's the "big" things that are romantic....candlelit dinners at an upscale restaurant, weekend getaways at a fancy place, an expensive piece of jewelry...etc, etc.
One of the things on the list of ten billion things I love about my wife is that she doesn't want that stuff as much as she wants the "little" things like those that have been discussed here.
For the first couple years we were together I did those things that seem unimportant to a guy but are VERY important to a woman....left a little love note when I left for work, brought home a single rose, ran a bath for her to be ready when she got home from work, cooked dinner so she could relax (even though I'm a horrible cook), or just gave her an unexpected shoulder massage or hug from behind (with no expectations) etc, etc.
Why it stopped, I don't know, but it just grew out of practice. That's not to say that the hugs and massages have stopped, but the little gifts and notes have.....well, until now I guess. I guess it evolved into something different instead, yesterday (at my suggestion) we took a little walk to a field nearby and picked some strawberries and bought a bottle of champagne....maybe there's hope for me yet. After ten years together we still have a lot of spontaneity (sp?) left - we still go out exploring new places and things on the weekends and all that, but I don't think that necessarily fits in the "romance" category. We have tons of fun together, but those little things have become more like "would you like one of those little boxes of chocolates" rather than buying it behind her back and surprising her with it.
