not receiving replies

I have sent several replies to ads and have not got any response. if I gave my email address for a reply should I not get a reply? do I have to be registered and log in first/

You don't need to register to reply to ads on backpage.com. If you're replying to an anonymous email address, your reply will automatically be sent to the ad poster's email address.
