Hello.
Well, My family is planning on moving to Grenada, and they're taking their 1 year old Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs about 9 pounds, and she gets stressed very easily.
The only way to take her with them is by Air Canada, and I'm not sure if it's like safe or I'm scared that she will get hurt, and stuff.
Has anyone here ever traveled with their pet by air canada? If so, please let me know what were the results.

Hi K9 girl
My hubby is in the military and while I have not traveled with Air Canada I have traveled back and forth from america to europe with all my dogs on Condor Air, North West and Iceland Air through out the years.
Have your parents checked into their dog flying in cabin with them? The dog much be of certin weight and must fit under the seat in the carrier. You must ask Air canada directly about restrictions.
Normally there is not too much to worry about with the pets flying underneth.
I myself have noticed through out the years that pet safety when flying has come along way. many airlines even give you a special reciept that they must hand you after boarding notifying you that your pet is under the plane.
as long as nothing medical is wrong with your dog then I would not sweat it too much.

Thank you for the information, I have to make a correction regarding the dogs weight. She weighs 19 pounds, not 9. Air Canada does not accept pets anymore in the cabin starting with the fall of this year. If you don't mind too much, please check out their website and let me know what you think.

I looked the site over.
As long as the dog is flying before the winter restrictions I would not worrry, the floors of the plane are warmed so they do not get too cold (the German animal protetion guy assured me of this as I had brought dog coats with me last january to fly back to the states with) .
Most airlines have heat and cold restrictions but some airlines waive this with a letter from the vet the dog or animal is healthy to fly under temps of 45 f.(This might be mostly for Military personal having to move from country to country not sure)
If it is the stress of the flying you are worried about you can give a "NATURAL SEDITIVE", I use 1/2 melatonin tablet for my dogs (75 lbs each) which you can get through any health food store. However I usually recommend trying it out on the dog before flying, just to be sure which amount will work with your dog ( no chance of over dosing just that your dog if really stressed my require at least 1/2 table to 1 full tablet).
For a 19 lb dog 1/4 tab to 1/2 tab should work. give it on an empty stomach so it is absorbed quicker and give it 1 hr before flying. remember no chance of over dosing so if you need to give 1 full tab go ahead.
DO NOT GIVE A VET PERSCRIBED SEDITIVE ( A.C.E.)! These will slow the dogs body functions down too much and most airlines will not let the dogs fly on these type of seditives unless the vet writes a letter stating the Dog must be on this type of seditive .
I flew with my first dog about 10 years ago and the vet perscribed A.C.E for him. wow never again he was wobbly and really drugged up and I didnt like to see him that way.
The airlines have really come along way from 10 years ago. they really do the best they can for the comfort and safety of the pet. I hope I was able to quiet your fears some.
