View Full Version : Should Animals Be Our "Property"?

With animals as our property (that we own) there are no laws to protect them. Animals need protection under the law. Right now we use the word "guardian" instead of owner for ethical reasons, but we need to take it one step further and make it law. There is too much animal abuse happening and this has become a national epidemic, much like child abuse.

America needs to move forward on this important issue.

LOL! What's next - a "Civil Union" between pet and "guardian?" Again it is proven, the diminishing quality of the gene pool!

No pets are not our property to own.

that's not what the animal catchers told me when my dog snuck out and they caught her.
turns out that not only are they our property..... but if they get drunk and vandalize a liquor store.... we gotta foot the bill.
if i wanted to deal with all that..... i'd go buy a teenager instead.

Headline news in UK yesterday.
Brothers David Benton, 53, and Derek Benton, 62, are the first pet owners to be prosecuted for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal on the basis of overfeeding.
David Benton yesterday told the court Rusty ate a small bowl of dried food in the mornings and a larger one in the evenings, with an occasional bone.
RSPCA inspector Jason Finch
'It was 40 or 50 yards to my vehicle,' he said. 'Rusty was only able to go four or five paces before he had to sit down.'
David Benton:
'We tried to cut his food down, but he would get hungry and irritated. We also tried him on diet food but it made him ill. His food was his enjoyment, I suppose.'
The brothers deny two charges of causing unnecessary suffering - for the obesity. The case was adjourned until January 12.
I guess the dog should sue the owners, any animal lawyers out there?

They live indoors with me, sleep on my bed, eat fattening human food...I know its bad but they seem to love it and continuously beg for it. While I do not think its right for all people to have a pet...should have heavy screening and such to cut down on neglect, suffering and just plain ole incompentience.
In by owning, you mean responsible...then yes I own up to my pet. If my pet bites someone...guess who is held responsible??? ME

My dogs and cats are not my property. They are like my children and in my care I tend to their needs and care for them when they are ill or out of sorts.
