My thoughts:

1. The Quran is the infallible holy book of the Muslims. It contains the word of God in its original form and without any modifications. Refuting one single verse if the Holy Quran is equivalent to denouncing one's faith.

2. The Quran is holy to Muslims in a different way that the Bible is holy to Christians. Until the rise of American fundamentalism about a century ago, the Christian assertion that the Bible was “the word of God” was understood more analogically than literally. So abusing the Quran is a hideous offense to Muslims more than the same abuse of a Bible would be to Christians.

Both Bible and Koran should be treated with the same respect, the bigger picture that needs to be looked at is the more moderate side of both religions need to curtail their radical element. I believe he is trying to placate the muslims who became so upset about our military “allegedly” desecrating those books. Although I know there is a need to use some unorthodox methods to garner information from prisoners I believe it is the majority consensus that we want our military and its representatives to behave in a professional and civilized way. It is difficult when you know you are handling an enemy as barbarous as this one but we need to set an example rather than incense an already unstable mind set.

The other problem is the military will coordinate interrogation with CIA contractors. Some of these guys are ex-military guys highly trained and highly respectable, others are scum of the earth "Spooks" who will do anything to get the job done. Oversight of this is necessary to say the least!

I would agree with the nuts in the vise thing if they were convicted of something. Regular US court, military tribunal or anything. They have not been proven guilty so they are not. Being accused of a crime is NOT the same as being convicted of a crime.

What ever name you want to give them, they are still POW's and as such need to have the protection of the Geneva convention.

I don't understand why people would get married if they didn't want to commit. I try to understand and all I can come up with is insecurity. I have a girlfriend that is a cheater. She was my bestfriend (I try not to judge and try to catch myself when I do) who called me and told me that she told her husband that she was coming to my house when she was really going to mess around.
