Hello All:

I am a new "grandma" at this and currently my dog is pregnant. She is going to have quite a bit of puppies but the number is TBD at this point. I want to give the puppies to loving homes, mainly relatives but the others i would like to sell. I am SO new to this so, how much is a good price to sell these pups? They will be a mixed breed, the mother is Jack Russell Chihuahua and the Father is Spanish Terrier/Chihuahua...they will be small like the parents. They will be 6lbs max at full growth.

What is decent and reasonable price to sell these pups? From what i know, the more someone wants to spend on a dog, they are more likely to care for it and treat it well, Since they are paying so much for it. But at the same time that cant always be the case for everyone but i would still like to stay at a decent price.

Help. Thank you!!!
:) :) :)

i just looked up some going prices on jr chi's and st chi's, and to be honest, you really shouldn't be selling these pups for very much

Jack Russell Chihuahua- the ones i found were pure crosses and they only cost 250.

Spanish Terrier/Chihuahua- these ones were even cheaper coming in at 150

basically, the puppies that you are selling are mutts, and nobody is going to pay a high price for a mutt puppy. i wouldn't dream of buying one for more than 50 in all honesty.

for dogs such as these, you need to get whatever you can for them. Mixing breeds typically devalues the dogs. that is why you dont see many weenie dogs mating with great danes. While you might get several hundred for an AKC registered chihuahua, you might be lucky to be able to give all of your puppies away as they are just mutts. I like mutts...but people will not give big money for cross bred animals. Bottom line is that you should not let your dogs run around to cross breed with any other animal on the streets. If you can get 20-50 dollars for your puppies, you should jump on it and use the money to get your dog neutered or spayed. I am not dogging your dog...you might have the best puppies ever known to man, and maybe one of them will get his own tv show one day, but the reality is, if someone is going to shell out big bucks for a dog...the dog should be registered and in a controlled breeding environment. I hope you are able to get rid of them!

thank you to both of you who have replied. I am aware of the "whole" mutt thing and the cross breading which is why i was seeking advice on how much to sell the pups for. I will not have any problems getting "rid" of them because everyone now a days wants a small puppy but selling them for $20-$50 is just a slap in the face and i will not do that. Full breeds of course would get a better value because they are again, "full bred" but i bought my male for $150 and i thought that was decent. My female i got from a friend and i got it free but they were selling the others for $100.

Thank you for those who have replied. All suggestions are appreciated.

ah but yes, you have to think, the dogs you bought were already crossed, and now the puppies you have are crossed again, which weakens the breed even more. i'm really sorry you feel like it's a slap in the face, but it is reality.

well i've come to a conclusion that since i am giving majority of the pups to my relatives and close friends, i might as well just charge them for vet bills and food. Which will be about the $40-$100 range, granting nothing is wrong with the puppies itself.

I appreciate all suggestions that have been made and those more to come if any.

Thanks again!

There is already enough mutts out there. There are those in shelters, on the streets, being abandoned in buildings, getting run over, etc.. Please be a responsible pet owner and have your two dogs spayed and neutered.

Just to let you know, there is a procedure called "spay" for female dogs and a procedure called "neuter" for males dogs. Educate yourself before you get a pet next time, okay Buttercup? And if your friends and relatives are as educated as you are, I'm sure as soon as you turn these pups over to them, they will be posting messages saying "my dog is pregnant" by this summer/fall. Your dog will probably be preggers again by then too. Next time you want a pet, since obviously you are just too poor/uneducated/uncaring to properly provide veterinary care for your pets, get one from a shelter or the humane society. They come spayed and neutered and with their first set of shots.

Sounds about right to me K.. Now I have a Toy Poodle, and a Yorkie-Poo that I plan on breeding in about 18 months. They have both been AKC registered, and I have gotten an ok from my vet. But If you ask me, this women is putting the cart before the horse. She needs to research all the breeds involved and have those pups thoroughly checked before even thinking about "how much to sell them for" WTF?? Is that why you bred your dogs?? Need some cash?? Hell, that's a lot of stress to put your dog thru. I already have my dogs on nutritional supplements to ensure their health, and well being. No generic dog food here either, nothing but wholesome foods for my dogs. I could eat the food I'm giving my dogs. With ingredients like apples, pears, turkey breast.. None of those crappy fillers.. But hey thats me.. Some people just don't care....

My 2 cents...

Well, that wasn't exactly my point, but yeah... good nutrition for pets is important too.

Yes grandma, you should definity take advice about spaying and neutering you dog from someone with the words "phone whore" in their call name. You and muttshepard both were not asked for your opinion on if people should breed their dogs. Only how much they should be sold for. See you both at the next tree hugging rally.

*bravo, bravo another loser takes the stand*
for your info I wouldn't pay a dam cent for a piece of crap mutt that was intentionally bred just so that the owners could make a profit off of. Its careless jerks like you that have overpopulated this earth with your single brain cell fighting for its last breathe of air.

If I was you, I would give those puppies people for free, not making even 1$ on them. Its more important to get them home with nice people, than make money on mixed dogs. You will have hard time find somebody who will take them even for free.

She is not going to have a hard time getting rid of her puppies. Sorry but true, they are going to be small dogs...mutts but small dogs. Sell your puppies for enough money to get your two dogs fixed and lets leave it at that....
