i have a 1yr old chihuahua that i just got about 2 days ago and he wont try to eat dog food. he has been eating home made food. the people i got him from did not tell me about this. they told me he was eating eukanuba dry food......how can i get him to eat dog food...

when he gets hungry enough he'll eat.
I just got a 5 1/2 month old male yesterday and he ate my other dogs food. maybe try giving him your other dogs food, see if he likes it.

yeah thats what people tell me. he's gonna get really hungry and he wont have any choice but to eat the dog food. he's pretty healthy and proper wheight, what if he's determined and will go up to 2 days without eating it. then that wont be good for him...thanks for the reply.

He will eat. He is probably stressed about his new living arrangements. You said you got him 2 days ago. Also, are you giving him the Eukanuba that he's used to? Unless he has some underlying medical condition, he should eat tomorrow, or sooner even. If after tomorrow he doesn't eat, take him to your veterinarian.

at first you might have to mix the dry food with canfood then little by little less can food

is he one of those little fuckers that run out at me every single day on my morning run? if so eat him before he gets too stringy. if not if all else fails try canned cat food always works but don't do it untill all else fails and he hasn't eaten for at least 5 days. otherwise all you're gonna do is hook a picky dog on cat food that is to rich for doggie

BAD ADVICE!! Cat food has acidifiers in it to prevent crystals in cats. Cat food is never good for dogs and can actually cause damage. Cats can eat dog food but dogs should not eat cat food. You might try a different dog food.
How do you know he was getting home-made food if they didn't tell you? Did the dog tell you? Will he eat home-made food now? If not, the idea that he's getting used to his new environment has validity. He also might miss his former family. Let him relax first. When he gets hungry, he'll eat. If you're worried about his health after a few days, see if he'll eat some human food. If not, it might be time to call a veterinarian.
