I am having company this weekend. A common occurance in my house.
I alway have the guest room made up with a basket filled with soaps and shampoo and slippers. I also make sure to have whatever they like to drink on hand.
I don't drink diet coke but have several cans in my fridge at all times because my best friend drinks it and I want her to feel at home when she comes over. I also get up and make hot cocoa for my BF when he stays over.
I like a cup of coffee with designer creamer in the morning. My BF doesn't drink coffee and when I stay over at his house (not all that often), he doesn't offer me any coffee. It makes me very aware of how special it is to offer these things for the people I care about.
What do you do to make your guests feel comfortable in your home?

I do that same things that you do. I even go as far as adding TVs to rooms that don't normally have them if I know they are TV people. We aren't so much.
Food, drink, towels, soap, brand new scrubby, toothbrushes, etc. If they don't use them, they are all still tagged or packaged for the next guy.
I think it makes people feel special. If you don't go to your bf's house that often the designer creamer and coffee might be hard to keep around and fresh enough but maybe I am sure he could think of something.
Not that you asked about this, but I would ask him to have coffee for you. :p Turn around is fair play.

So when am I expected again? :D
Acutally, I cook homemade meals for them. When we have a gathering I make sure everything is homemade and I make sure I have liquor, wine and the favorite beers around. Make sure there are plenty of munchies and drinks for them. I make sure the guest room is good to go. Clean sheets, aired out, etc. I cook breakfast for them in the morning. Last time was homemade waffles, biscuits and gravy and sausage patties. Fresh coffee to wake them up to.

Oh, yes, I cook. I am known for my breakfasts. Most people ask me to cook breakfast even when we go to thier house. Saturday night I am having cheesy mashed potatoes and halibut and a ceasar salad for dinner.

Everything sounds good but the fish  I made chioppino, beef tenderloin, rice pilaf and a salad when my parents came up for dinner. homemade ww bread too. Love to cook so when I get the chance, I cut loose. I like your ideas about the soap, etc. Same with girljo. Most of our overnight guests are lots so it is hard for me to cater to them outside of the food and drinks. We just move furniture around to make floor space.

The fun part about this company is that they live 5 hours away and they just bought 5 acres near my home in Northern Idaho and guess who gets to use it whenever I want. The property overlooks one lake and is a mile to the largest lake in state (as far as I know).
So.... who wants to go camping this summer..... I do, I do

Cooking is a given! And if people travel the distance to be with us, we always plan to have a party so our out of town guests always get to know our in town friends. Just like we did a few weeks back. Out of town guest, so we threw a super bowl party. :D Christmas visitors, New Year's eve party. You get the picture.
I also always leave magazines & books in the rooms for people who are readers to enjoy by the pool.
We keep a cooler stocked with ice outside filled with beers, juice boxes for kids, etc in addition to a fully stocked bar that is open at all times.
Oh yeah, and last but not least, at night, I put out the coffee, teas, breads, etc. and put all the things they might need from the fridge together so that the early risers can help themselves. (most people make themselves at home within a few hours but we like to make it easy for them to find stuff.)

we don't have a pool :( We normally have people who just come for the night to party (ie buddies and their wives) so I just do the food and drinks along with special drinks for the ladies. I try to make sure I make certain foods that I know are people's favorites. Not much more to it than that, but I do try to have dinner parties and what not just so they have an evening of great food.

Yes, those people really are sleeping in the pool after a long night of partying. And yes, that is a bucket of beer in the pool with them so they wouldn't have to travel to far for another.

You need to watermark those pictures! They will be on hundreds of harddrives tonight, and who knows where they will end up online. At least claim them as yours!
