cool...We share the same love of problem solving. The hard part is putting it into words on a thread.
Do you play with any flavors of Linux? For the past couple years I have been getting deep into Linux...needed more of a challenge. Really enjoy the new Unbuntu Linux 7.10 with Compiz and all the other bells and whistles. I can't believe how rock solid everything runs (once set up right) and trouble free...no viruses, spyware, trojans, etc...all the cool software (free) and software that runs smoother and better than Windows. I dont' do MACs (no offense to MAC fans) but I was told its like having an expensive MAC, but less problems and free. There is of course a learning curve that most people are not willing to take...but its o.k. I used to only mess around with my "linux" computer, but now I use it more than my windows machine. Most people don't even realize some of the Linux/Sun Solaris software that people run on their windows machine that work better than the Microsoft software...ie...Firefox web browser, Thunderbird e-mail, or my favorite...Open Office (free from Sun Solaris) which is just as good as Microsoft Office Pro 2003 with added features. Open Office runs all of Microsoft's Word, Powerpoint and Excel programs...yes including Office 2007 and Microsoft's will run Open Office's equivalent. The real difference is Open Office uses less memory, storage, and resources...plus it is free, while Office Pro 2003 will cost over $200. Don't get me wrong...the new Office 2007 version rocks, but 99% of the public doesn't use all of its features and it is a process hog. Well...enough said...I think I should get a check for my praising of these non-microsoft programs. Even IE7 stole its zooming and tab features from Firefox...they had to keep up. I think Microsoft would have done better if they didn't "force feed" Vista to the public and then offer watered down crappy versions...business edition should have been the lowest level, but the ultimate version is really the only one that is worth having...agree? Inside scoop is that Microsoft is already writing their new operating system (new name to be announced) to replace Vista (dubbed ME 2007). If this new system doesn't rock...it'll really drive people to MAC, Linux, and cement them to Windows XP. I hope they really fix Vista...it has real potential...at least the high end versions. I have tweaked many Vista Machines and after a little "tweaking" they run good on fast hardware. Oh...back to Linux...on old desktops (pentium III), Unbuntu 7.10 runs great! Version 8.04 is due out soon.
Well...enough of the insomnia...later:D
