Hi. My 4 year old cat is scratching my furniture. I can't get her to stop no matter how much I try. Of course, this is probably my fault since I let her do that for the past 3.5 years since it seemed like she wasn't doing any damage (it just took time to show up). I have tried No-Scratch for Cats, but it does not work as advertised. Anyone have good tricks to help me keep my cat's claws off my furniture.

PS Her nails are also trimmed, but that doesn't help, either.

Have you offered her alternatives? Scratch pads with catnip?

Short of de-clawing her, which is barbaric in my opinion, there is very little you can do now. There are several cat-repellent sprays that work more or less OK. But, if you can stand the stench of moth-balls, then you may have a solution. If you rub a moth ball into her most favourite spots, and/or leave some around those, she will quickly lose interest! However, they have to be the old kind with no scent additives.

Remember, cats scratch to leave their scent and mark fav spots, so moth balls cover it and also repel them. If all else fails, take her to the nearest PetSmart salon and get them to "outfit" her with rubber nail covers - that way she can't do any damage. Problem is - you have to do it every month at about $25 a pop. Again, offering alternatives that are equally "inviting" should be done too! Good luck!

trim their claws with fingernail clippers - just don't go into the cuticle part of the nail/claw.

When I first brought home the cat which I adopted from the local rescue, she started scratching on the furniture, and the carpeting as well. One quick trip to the local pet store, I own a cat scratching post. Then, each time she would start to scratch again, a verbal reprimand, and carrying her over to her scratching post and setting her down in front of it did the trick in about a week. now the only thing she claws at besides her post is my leg (gently) for attention lol.

you can try nail caps... dunno what they're exactly called, but if you google "rubber cat claw caps" you may be able to find something.

You can't even spell pit bull. And you said it yourself, it's a pet bull, not a pit bull.
I will report you, Buddy.
