I was told pure white vaseline, but the internet can't decide if it's toxic? There are those that swear by it, and those who swear to never use it. There are some sites that say to call poison control and others that say you're fine if your pet gets into a little of it.
Anyone have an answer?
Our vet recommends Laxatone for hairballs. Its main ingredient is white petroleum (Vaseline) with some artificial flavors and preservatives for taste.
I can't see how a small amount of Vaseline would hurt.

I use Hartz Hairball Remedy. You can buy it at at Walmart.I use it on my cats and I works great. Also Brushing your cats coat will help eliminate the hairballs.

I use public transit so it takes five hours to get to Petsmart and back with their schedule (Walmart doesn't even have ferret food here) so I won't be able to go till Saturday, and I suspect she might have an obstruction the way she's been coughing, and apparently they can't cough them up like cats can. I've been brushing as well...pure Petroleum Jelly I have on hand I'm just not sure if I can use it.

Call a vet. I don't know if using cat remedies on ferrets is a good idea without getting a professional opinion.

There are ferret specific hairball remedies. I've decided to hold off and call, though.
Tomlyn Laxatone is a ferret specific laxative
Ingredients: WHite petrolatum USP, light mineral oil NF, corn syrup, malt syrup, soybean oil, cane molasses, water, gelatin by-products, sodium benzoate (preservative), artificial flavors.
White petrolatum USP is pure petroleum jelly, but I'm not sure why when the pure petroleum jelly I have, and the internet gives you a poison control number for ingestion of it.
