With dog obesity on the rise, it is essential that your furry friend gets an ample amount of exercise each week. Along with an adequate diet, exercise 5 times a week for 30-60 minutes will help keep your pup in great shape. After all, it is estimated that dogs with a healthy weight will live 2 years longer than obese dogs.

Gracie's doggy exercise pick of the week; Backpacking!

Walking is a great way for you and Fido to get exercise. When on hikes, you always need to make sure you and your pup have enough water. But why carry your dog's water when he can carry it himself?
Backpacks are a fun and easy way to store your dog's supplies while giving him an extra workout*. I usually store water bottles, dog dishes, an extra slip lead, and tennis balls in Gracie's pack. Gracie enjoys carrying her pack around -- she likes to feel like she has a job. As soon as I pull her backpack out, she knows it's time for a hike!

Gracie recommends the following websites for dog backpacks;

Gracie says, "Happy hiking, all!"

*Of course, it's always important you make sure you're not overworking your dog. Many breeds such as the American Pit Bull Terrier, the Siberian Husky, and the American Bulldog don't know their limits and will often "over do it". Dogs can overheat easily in warm weather, so make sure your dog isn't working too hard. Overheated dogs will pant excessively to try to cool themselves down.
