The NYCACC is poorly run and their customer service skills needs work. My dog got out and was taken to the Manhattan branch acc. It took me 3 days to collect my dog. I had made a lost dog report, emailed all my information (TWICE) along with a picture of my dog, but when I called them to say that my dog was on their site, they in turn nastily informed me that it wasn't my dog because I reported a missing siberian husky mix and the dog on their site was a 1 year old australian cattle dog mix. I have had my dog for 3 years, I think I know better than the ACC what my dog looks like and what breed she is! I immediately went down there and was told again that it was a australian cattle dog mix and was not my dog. They could not find the emails that I sent to them, but thankfully I had pictures in my digital camera of me with my dog that I showed them and yet it still wasn't good enough. Then they made me wait for over an hour to identify my dog but it still wasn't sufficient for them. I came back the next day with certified letters from my neighbors and didn't not get any kind of satisfaction until I demanded to speak to a supervisor. Once my paper work was slowly filled out I asked to see my dog, again I waited for over an hour only to have an employee tell me they had "bad news".
Do you think that an employee of a kill shelter should come out and tell a dog owner they "have bad news"? I lost years off of my life because I thought my dog was dead.
The bad news was that no one "had the time" to allow me to see my dog. I saw people in brown shirts walking about, getting snacks out of the vending machine, standing statuette, but no one "had the time" to allow me to see my dog? Shouldn't a kill shelter always "have the time" to allow people to see the animals? Not "having the time" could drive a potential adopter right to the pet shop. Only upon threatening to call the Mayors Alliance did someone "find the time" to allow me a less than 6 minutes with my dog. I wonder why didnt they "have the time"? Could it be that they didn't want anyone to see any of the dogs sitting in their cage with feces with no water? I did see this the first day I went to identify my dog. The dogs did have blankets but no toys or chews. Some of those dogs will never make it out of that place. Shouldnt they have a toy or something to distract them from the non-stop barking that they have to listen too?
Finally, I was told that I could collect my dog the following day between 4-7. When I called the nycacc the following day to confirm that my dog had her spay surgery they did not know. What good is the call center if they do not know anything? I was told that I would have to come in to see if it was done. I was there at 4pm sharp with a pet friendly cab waiting. They let me sit there for over an hour and a half before bringing my dog out. No one knew what the hold up was, and I was not the only one that they did this too. Something has gone terribly wrong with the NYCACC. I for one, wish to never have any dealings with them ever again.
