View Full Version : Steelers was "handed" the trophy; they didn't earn it!

Okay, being a laidback west-coaster, I'm unlike a lot of the other east coast disrespectful bashers, so with God watching over me... I'll just continue to speak the good and honest truth:

The Pittsburgh Steelers did NOT earn the Superbowl trophy... it was only handed to them because of many reasons:

1) The NFL most likely (but I am unsure) sold more tickets to the Pittsburgh Steeler fans - offered more of the tickets to them rather than offering an EQUAL amount of tickets to be bought by both sides; then have the tickets be up for sale to the public after a given date.
2) Most of the "hype" was based on "Steeler this", "Steeler that"... as during the Superbowl, they were mainly showing Steeler players with the trophy and only showed 1 Seahawk (Hasselbeck) with the trophy and then went to a Steeler with the trophy on the SAME commercial.
3) The Pittsburgh Steelers' Roethlisberger did NOT score the touchdown that was supposedly a touchdown called by a blinded striped sideline judge. The ball didn't even cross the goal line as Roethlisberger was already down. That would have made it 4th and 1. Who knows what would have happened afterwards.
4) Darrel Jackson of the Seahawks was ROBBED by his earned touchdown because it was NOT pass interference at all. A couple of hand-slapping between players does not qualify pass interference, especially if both are looking back at the ball and the offensive player was turning a different direction to catch the ball. This was a catch and even Steve Young said it was. Period. Seahawks- +7 points.
5) The referees kept on calling bad calls like the supposedly fumble that Hasselbeck had, but he was touched. They were ready to give the ball to the Steelers.
6) The ONLY and I repeast... ONLY touchdowns earned by the Steelers was the run and the trick play/pass. They only earned 14 points in this game... Period.
7) Seahawks had the most of the nation, most of the NFL, most of the fans and most of the men in stripes to play against... and the fact is... they still out-played the Steelers and was STILL in it until the end.
8) The story was mainly about Bettis going home and playing in front of his crowd and the NFL played up to that because they wanted to make more money... and that's all it was based on. Still, Seattle needs the respect from everyone and everyone needs to know that Seattle is (and was) the better team. They were just robbed as Seattle has been in many unfortunate games and luckily- the Steelers came out on top for those fans, that organization, etc. That's all it was too- LUCK.
9) The only thing Seattle should have done was scored more, scored early and beefed up the score so there would be no questioning on who is the winner, etc. Again, the Seahawks are the REAL champions, gentlemen and classier organization here.

For the Seahawks will be back and there was never any "trash talking" by us- not even Jeremy Stevens. The punk- PORTER should have shut his mouth because all he was doing was taking Stevens' comments to be a threat and if Porter would have opened up his ears, Stevens even said it would be sad if we go home without the trophy too. So, Porter is a punk, a thug that doesn't have no time and isn't worth my time no matter how much money he or anybody thinks he's worth.

In a final and still - most truthful word... Seahawks are the real Super Bowl Champions... it is just not shown on the record that way. So, if the Steeler fans and players and the NFL commissioner and staff can honestly say- "Yes- the Steelers earned the Superbowl" and they can sleep at night and live with that... all are guilty of committing a lie within themselves.

Now, THAT'S the truth.

Sincerely and Respectfully...

That all sounds good, but the fact that you're from Seattle kinda damages your credibility.

1. That Hassleback fumble could have EASILY gone either way. They chose to give it to the Seahawks. Personally, I think he fumbled because he was touched while he was going down, not while he was actually down.

2. I agree that sports can be corrupt. Remember when Michael Jordan made his "triumphant" return to the Washington Wizards? The Wizards just happened to win the draft lottery that year. It was in the best interests of the NBA to give Jordan the best team possible, so they did. I haven't watched an NBA game since!

3. The hype about Bettis and everything was just that, hype. What's wrong with the NFL or the Steelers playing the media to promote the game even further?

4. That interferrence call was total bullshit - I can't argue that one.

5. I also agree that Rothlisberger didn't break the plane, but Cowher would have probably gone for it on 4th down. As you said, who knows what would have happened then.

I am not a Steelers fan by any stretch. I grew up in the early 80's when they used to put my Oilers out of the playoffs every freaking year. I will NEVER forgive them for that. And, for the most part, i agree with you - the Seahawks are a better team than the Steelers, but the Yankees have been the best team in baseball for years but they can't win when it counts. You still have to win the "big game" with all the pressure. I just don't feel like I was duped.

These are just opinions, there are very few facts in sports (outside of numbers), so don't rip me too hard!

The Seahawks got reamed against the Jets too a few years back in the playoffs.

The idea that anyone will respect Seattle is a joke. Unless we win the "big one"... and win it like a blow-out... then, people can kiss our arses. We have to score first, big and keep scoring and hold the lead.

The Steelers were good when it counted and the Seahawks were not as sharp on defense and offense as we know them. Oh well. They got a taste of it, so the NFL should look out in 2006. They will be back- if not this year... soon. Most likely though- this coming year. It was a huge success this year.

I just hated to hear what John Madden said on the Monday night game when Seattle played Philly... "This defense to me is not a championship defense."

Well, good 'ole John... they wen to the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game and won it... so, yes- they ARE a championship defense. Plus, Terry Bradshaw already judged both Carolina and Seattle when he said, "The Steelers can beat either one of these teams.". Actually- he didn't say, "The Steelers will be handed the trophy because the lack of experience of the referrees and the incompetenance and slimy propaganda that the NFL has that will give the Steelers the championship without taking closer looks at replays during Superbowl XL."

It's all good. Steelers are still losers- like their "steel-headed" town. If everyone knew and lived in the Pacific Northwest... they would actually know that we are very laidback... and we kick arse. :) But, we're not in "Alaska" as Jimmy Johnson said we were. That's another joke (him), but I won't go there.

At least I'm glad that some of the commentators voted for Seattle. Hopefully there will be a re-match next year between the two.

You guys sound like Holmgren...A WIN IS A WIN.. The Seagulls choked. There were a shitload of bad calls, but you'll have that. The refs sucked thru the playoffs as well. Those guys are under loads of pressure, just like the men who take the field to play the game. Ben didn't have a bad performance for being a 2nd year freshman....No, he didn't nearly prove himself in the first half, but made a slight recovery in the 2nd.
:( BooooHooooo :(
Afterall, its just a game, isn't it? Bettis got to go home, ward got MVP. I think Jeramy Stevens should have got MVP, he dropped enough passes while lookin for Porter. And no matter what anyone says to bad mouth the Steelers, we are a nation... under god.. and we bleed black and gold!!

Steeler nation, under god? I don't believe in god so he has no weight in this discussion. Both sides pray to win the game - not even god can have it both ways! The NFL is bigger than god. (that's why no one goes to church on Sunday during football season, god forbid they miss the 1st quarter of a blowout!)

The rematch next year won't mean squat. It's not the Super Bowl. Everyone knew the stakes involved. They had 2 weeks to think about it. If the Seawhawks want to be considered champions they should have won that game. The Steelers beat the Colts after that joke of an officiating job. THEN - they won the big one.

YOU GOTTA WIN THE BIG ONE!

You're right about that one. I just hope that that guy didn't butterfinger his way out of a starting position, because that was one of the worst displays I've even seen. He got hit in the numbers on one of those passes for god's sakes! Another one went through his hands. HIS HANDS! Every pass to him was a receiver's dream and he dropped 4 out of 7. Unacceptable.

When Tom Brady flipped the coin at the beginning of the game, he quitely wispered to both teams "And by the way, we could beat you both".
