Computers contain alot of personal info which is impossible to remove. NO software,erasure,magnets,and overwrites remove and destroy your info. Sounds like you read up on the UK government suggestions for data disposal!

If i remember correctly (and I am often wrong) I think they suggested re-writing over the disk with dud data a number of times, opening the case and remove the physical disk, scratch the disk with wire wool, and THEN break it.

I have a forensic cloner which will do a 7x erase and random bit by bit write over, but if someone has the money and the will...anything can be brought back. Smash the thing with a big hammer!!!!!

I have two towers in my basement for this reason, I figure when I need to get out some frusteration I will take the sledge hammer out and have some therapy!!!!
