Texas...if you don't want to be a part of this nation, get the fuck out, already. The 1.8 million federal jobs and the 25 military bases and operations would be moved to other states. This would include all the assets of the federal government, leaving thousands of square feet of unrented office space, and put thousands of homes on the market. Of course, there’s the lost revenue to local economies and the loss of state and property tax revenue. The U.S. would not have to secure the Texas border or send in FEMA during disasters. Texans would not receive Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid or worry about Planned Parenthood.

There are 49 other states that would welcome the military bases, revenue and the jobs lost by your "State." It would help the federal government pay down the deficit and give citizens in other states on Social Security a raise.

It's a great idea. Good luck. The sooner you leave, the better.

My sentiments exactly....I say let all of the red states form their own country...and let's hope they have a good welfare program since these states utilize the most resources from it. My relatives in KY are screaming the same stupidity.....would we really miss Kentucky?

Otto, I've made no secret of who I am. And no, I haven't signed a petition with either my screen-name or my real name with 2 "r"s.

Yes, I'm a Native Texan but losing an election is not a reason to stop being an American. My view is there is always another election down the road. Besides, like many on these boards I and members of my family have pledged allegiance to our nation. I don't take that lightly and members of my family have fought and some died for the USA. I would feel it a grave dishonor to abandon my nation under any circumstances. We just have to work harder for the next election. But you can sense why people are upset; it is going to be hard to win any election against an entitled class with a Santa Claus standard bearer.

My point on posting the link was similar to watching a poker game. One guy places a bet and the other players don't know whether it is a bluff or from strength. I think both moves are just that, bluffs. In fact, I liked the counter-secession petition. It should give people cause to stop and think before they do something like that. What surprised me was how many other states have similar petitions! I naively thought Texas was unique in those thoughts but I was wrong. Louisiana, yea, sure, they are crazy like us here in Texas but other states? Maybe Romney was on to something when he spoke of the 47% versus the 53%. He was slightly wrong. It is my compatriots that are in the 47%. What should concern the Dems, maybe not now, but soon, is how deep the divisions run. That is going to have to addressed soon or there will be hell to pay and it will not be from some paper petitions.

So posture away and be indignant if you wish. It seems your comprehension of the reason of my post leaves a little to be desired.

But, even with that you are correct on some of your observations. Economically, it makes no sense for any state to secede. As for the border being secured; that is a joke. Where would the new borders be; OK, KS, DS, ND, MN?FEMA? Ask the people affected by Sandy and Ike about FEMA. So, I give your post a 50% for posture.

See this is what I mean....those derogatory comments about people who are scumbags looking for a handout....do you realize that they buy STUFF with the food cards and checks? They pay sales tax to the State as well. Like it or not...these poor people that you so look down your nose at....are part of the economy and it is offensive to hear all of the idiotic comments coming from the GOP. As Ghandi would say...be the change you want to become. Stop promoting this shit. Besides the RED states are the ones using all the social resources...Texas could easily be absorbed by Mexico...let them go and see if the grass is greener on the other side. Maybe the petition signers should spend a month in Tijuana and see how good they have it.

Your a strange one sometimes HR...on one hand you seem to be very kind, great father and really look out for your loved ones and employees...but then.....this!! Relax there....I am sure you have weathered many storms and if you allow yourself to be positive...who knows...you could thrive better than ever before. At least give it a chance...we all are.

I worked for a Jewish hospital in the late 90's and the physicians treated me like a dog...along with all the other nurses. I hated working there.

The "Old Cur-Dog Syndrome" is what people used to call it around here. They have been kicked around so often for so long that they now they growl at everything. Only this old dog still has a bite. There was a reason they called the last war a "Six Day War." It only took six days for them to win.

Even without the religious overtones I don't see either one of them giving up and it will not be the first time that area was laid to waste if it happens again.
