With the 6-strike rule going into effect in a few months, internet providers are going to start really cracking down on p2p file sharing activity soon, especially bittorrent. The resulting risks for Bittorrent users include: bandwidth throttling, account suspension, as well as legal action.
There is a simple solution for using Bittorrent anonymously so that even your ISP can't track you: You need a secure VPN that doesn't keep data logs You can find a list of the best ones at The Best Bittorrent VPN Guide A good VPN is less than 10 bux a month and will make your internet activity basically untraceable. It will help protect you from identity theft as well. It basically encrypts your entire internet connection and routs it through a private server and IP address that is untraceable back to you. It's probably the best $$ you can spend this year. Last edited by Peanutz; 01-01-2013 at 11:06 PM. |

If you want more information on why a VPN is absolutely ESSENTIAL for bittorrent use, here's an article that explains it in more detail.
There are literally dozens of websites devoted to automatically tracking torrent activity and then reporting it to groups like the RIAA and MPAA. It's easy to protect yourself and your personal data will be far safer when you use your laptop on unsecured or public wireless networks. All the best VPN's use military grade encryption for maximum safety. |
