I think you made the mistake that I made when I first read the map. (It is a bit confusing.) The lighter shades indicate LOWER populations with less than 9 years of education. So, according to this map, people in NV, WY, UT are actually better educated than most states. The darker shades of red indicate less education - see the deep south, Appalachia, and other pockets here and there.

You're right, of course. My mistake.

Eastern Kentucky and south Texas then look like places where more education is needed.

Ahm glad I com from Colorado wher we gits good lernin'.

I'm only about 35 minutes from WV. Now you want to talk about some gud bouk lernin'...I'd put WV up against CO or any other state for that matter!

And you can be in West By God Virginny in 35 minutes?

Out here you can't even get halfway across town in 35 minutes...by freeway.

Yeah, believe it or not, Pgh is only about 30 miles from Weirton WV. Actually, the West Virginia panhandle - Weirton and Wheeling - is fairly civilized and industrialized. Once you go south of Morgantown, though, you're in Deliverance country.
