NASCAR is bad for America!

My numbers may be off, but follow me on this....

If there are 40 cars per race and the race is 500 miles...that's 20000miles, right?

If those cars get about 6 MPG, that's about 3333.3 gallons of gas per race!

This doesn't include tome trials, practice laps, driver training, idling time and whatever a NASCAR car does.

NASCAR, hot rods, mini-trucks, stock car, Formula 1, there are a lot of races out there.

Aren't we having a oil supply issue right now?

Gas prices are high, SUV resale values suck, we are dependent on foreign sources for our energy needs (oil), and we have our men and women in the Middle East right now fighting to (among other things) keep our oil supply flowing. I won't even start with the tremendous environmental damage caused by auto exhaust or from the exploration and drilling of new wells.

So...the next time you watch the cars roll around the speedway, think about the tremendous strain placed upon a non-renewable resource. Think about the rules of supply and demand in regards to oil prices. Think about our nation's thirst for a substance that primarily comes from a region of the world that is historically unstable. Think about the US soldiers and Marines that are in Iraq trying to keep the peace in order to help stabilize the region.

It's all tied together. NASCAR and its kind are bad for America and Americans. It is cheap entertainment with a hefty price.

Flame on!

if he thought we might be using some of our own oil instead of relying on a group of foriegn nations that detest us

but it is apparent that we have a president that doesn't care about the common man.

Oh go pound granola you fruit cake! Unless you drive an electric car or ride a horse piss off! The teams pay for that fuel (which costs about $4.00 a gallon because is special high octane fuel) and folks come to watch, people make money, its capatialism at its best. What's next, driving to a baseball game is un-Amercian? If you don't like it go to Canada and watch curling!

So....its all OK as long as someone makes money? The fact that the fuel is paid for by the teams and not by public funds doesn't diminish the waste of the resource.

After reading a few of your other responses, it seems to me that you are a modern version of the neighborhood crank that goes to all the city council meetings just to complain about things. The amount of your negative posts tells me that you don't have anything interesting or constructive to add so you will be ignored just like the cranky old man in the back row.

Freak,

I don't think that we do have plenty of oil. Other countries may but we don't have enough to fill our needs so we must buy it from others.

I paid $2.19 a gallon today. I'm glad that we pay less than some other countries, but it is still more than we paid last year. Prices will go up as long as demanis at the level that it is.

C' ya

AND BY YOUR RESPONSES I SEE YOUR EITHER THE VILLAGE IDIOT AND/ OR A CONBINATION OF CRACK PARENTS AND BEING DROPPED ON YOUR HEAD OR PERHAPS YOU TOOK SECOND IN A PARACHUTE-LESS SKYDIVING CONTEST! THE ONLY WASTE OF RESOURCES I SEE IS YOUR BRAIN CAPACITY WHEN YOU TRY TO THINK.....

60,000 PEOPLE GO TO A FOOTBALL GAME, THEY TAKE 20,000 CARS, IS THAT A WASTE OF RESOURCE? HOW ABOUT THE GAS WASTED IN TRAFFIC WHILE LEAVING THE GAME? MAYBE YOU SHOULD BAN PEOPLE DRIVING TO SUNDAY CHURCH! YOU'RE OPENING COMMENT IS ABOUT THE DUMBEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN HERE AND I AM BEING NICE! CRANKY OLD MAN? AT LEAST I'M NOT A PINKO IDIOT WHO WOULD WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS UNDER A SPORTS SECTION. BOTTOM LINE, YOU'RE A MORON!

If you had a 1/16 of a brain you would know there is more shale oil in Colorado than all the oil in Saudi Arabia. Huge amounts of oil exisit in the US but because of your idiot enviornmentalists it sits there. Its a matter of drilling for it and keeping the freakazoid enviornmentalists (which you probably are) in check.

Default Ya'll are funny

This is the best thread/reply session ever!

Danbo, I want to be the one to complain and not offer any solutions. I think my record more than qualifies me for the position. And share that freggin granola with me - I love that stuff. I'd get my own but I just blew my paycheck filling up with gas this morning!

Flyman, you have to add the people who drive to the races too. And those races are usually far, far in the sticks. I find his point funny and while technically it's valid and accurate, it's not really practical. NASCAR fans are as obsessed with it as I am with Football, and there's no way he'll ever make that argument stick!

I forgot who said it, but NASCAR is like watching traffic!

Dando - great stuff but pick your battles. You'll NEVER win this one.
