Default Has anyone ever went through a pet adoption

I'm considering adopting a yorkie, after mine died of 13yrs. What is the procedure? Why do some websites solicit money upfront, then respond "this dog is not available, after you have been approved? I need advice ASAP...Thanks

Default I am so sorry to hear that. I got lucky with my baby.

I am so sorry to hear they did that to you. I think it sounds like they were trying to scam you if you paid for a dog that they did not have then. I think at times they use photos that are not of the same animals as some people seem to. It is like marketing what they think people want and then trying to give them what they want them to have>? Does that make sense. It is very misleading and even cruel. I got lucky with my baby kitty. She was in a pet store and I saw her there at the right time. They said she was there a month and it was her last day so, I was scared to not get her. I think maybe there is a dog out there somewhere for you but, it seems in cases fate and more picks when and where. Maybe that is a scam site and there is one in a shelter waiting for you to find him or her. I sure hope you find one and I am so sorry for your loss. We never replace them but seems at times we can find one to help us heal from hurt. Take care and when you find that right one feel free to post any photos you like and things on my site. I have a page with a pet forum and things at ****************** or just post here so we will know you found a new baby. Good luck for sure.

Default Go to www.petfinder.com

Most people that do legitamit (sp?) rescues, will not rip you off. If you go to this website, find your local rescues, and you may find what your looking for. I have used pounds very little, after 3 bad experiences with them. I am in the suburban area of Cleveland, if you want to look here as well. I would only ask that if you do, I could meet you half way, but I would need help with the gas. My truck only gets 16mpg. Most legitamit (sp?) rescues want to do home visits though, so this may not be possible. Good luck in your ventures to find a new best friend.

Default Beware of scammers

I posted an ad in petfinders and have received 2 replies that I now know were scammers. These individuals contact you and speak of adopting your pet and somehow arrange to have your pet picked up and shipped , its a scam. I was advised to ask each inquiry if they would be willing to undergo a home visit and to fill out a small adoption application. I never received responses because both were scamers. This makes me furious and I hope these people are caught and punished.

Just go to your local Human Society. They should have a pure breed program.

I may end up in the ol' Dog House with this post - but - Honesty is the best policy.

A lot of animals that are in shelters are there because they have quirks that were not acceptable with their previous owners.

The pet may require special attention to retrain it - a lot of them end up tied up outside or turned loose far from home!

The last dog I had from a shelter was VERY destructive and resentful and was returned to the same shelter - a few months later we got a call from the microchip tracking service saying they found our dog (SPCA didn't change the contact info). Only thing is - there was NO WAY this dog would leave the yard for ANYTHING - my little boy accidentally left her out front and she was there hours later and never left the unfenced front yard on her own choice!

Since then we got a long haired German Shep. pup that has been awesome over the past year - a real doll baby !

Default About Pet Finder

Pet Finder is a great site, but you're right you should check out any place that you're going to work with. Make sure people are willing to give you all their info. And check it out. I've heard of people flying to pick up a pet and paying a deposit to the person who "found" their pet and then being stood up and out of their deposit.
