Jake became our Doberman puppy 9 years ago, he was born on March 30, 1996 in Phx, AZ. We was my wifes true friend, loved unconditionally and was always there for her and the family. This dog has the greatest spirit, he would wake in the morning to go ourside and retrieve the morning paper for a cookie. In the afternoon a walk to the mailbox to bring home a piece of mail for a cookie. He always went to the restroom via doggie doors never in the house, even if it meant holding it for a while. Loved to "go for a ride" in the back of the Ford Bronco even if it was around the block. My wife would take him for walks on the local golf course early in the morning, he would run and run, then quietly sneak up on the ducks and chase them into the water.
He was specail like his name sake John Wayne, rugged big (110lbs) black and tan Dobie with a tender loving heart that always loved people. The only things in life he feared was the garbage man and the vaccum cleaner. Today Jake lost his life to bone cancer, God rest his sole. what a great best friend. |

Sorry for your loss
Chef, sorry for your loss... I know what you mean. I think losing a dog is like losing a kid.. I dont know what I'm gonna do if anything happens to any of mine. I have 3 dogs... And we just found out that my pug has "dry eye" which can be treated, but if the treatment doesn't work, he will go blind... I also have a toy poodle and a yorkie teacup. The yorkie is older, and has no teeth thanks to her previous owner's neglect....
Nice Tribute man... Very touching..

I am sorry about the loss of Jake.He sounds like he was just a true loving doberman. He was aware of how much you loved him before he left you.You gave him a wonderful life,9 years old is old for a doberman...I wish this wonderful breed could be around longer than what their life expectancy is ,But even 20 years wouldnt be long enough for us would it??Jake is cancer and pain free now and is probably already chasing those ducks at rainbow bridge .

I too am so sorry for the loss of your pet. I have a 14 year old Great Dane, already living years longer than I ever expected, and also being consumed by cancer. Only someone who has owned and loved an animal can understand your pain.

hey chef, i'm so sorry to learn of your loss...
I can relate.. we lost our two old labs in 2005... the older went early in the year, the other in august. dogs are amazing in their ability to love unconditionally, to forgive your behavior on your worst days. I've been sitting for several minutes trying to come up with something to hopefully help you feel better, and realize i just can't. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you can find some peace in what you did for him, how you loved and cared for him. remember all the good times. remember all the times he made you forget about your worst days and made you smile... dogs never live long enough. ever. and that sucks, and is a cruel irony. |

very sorry to hear about your good friend,Jake.someone else mentioned that we do not get to enjoy our dog friends for very long, how true.
i think God allows us to have these guys for as long as he can spare them, then calls them home.Jake is probably having a great time right now,and waiting until he sees you again,so he can fetch your paper.when you get there, don't forget his cookie! |

Its great to hear from sincere people who are dog owners and lovers. Jake was a true family member and will always be missed. I thank all of you for your kind words of inspiration and thoughts. We know he is in a better place and pain free. Sometimes we just take that sweet face and personality for granted and think they will be around longer, with the New year give your puppy a hug and let them know you love them, and make sure you get that COOKIE.
God Bless and Happy New Year.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... |
