Default Advice needed for adding another dog to family

Does anyone have any advice as far as adding a new adult dog to my family. I got my mini schnauzer from someone on the internet in December, and he is very close to me, but since he was already an adult age 2 going on 3 and bonded with his brother, I feel that he is missing the company of another dog. So I have been searching for another adult dog to add to my home in hopes that he will brighten up some and actually try to play a bit.

could anyone offer me any advice on this?

My schnauzer was abused, neglected and starved by his former owner. He has recovered very well, and loves all the attention he gets now, but he still seems blue mentally a lot of the time.

My home computer was giving me fits. Try to introduce the dogs to each otther before you get one. Have them meet on neutral territory and let them get to know each other. See how they interact. If you can't, bring the "new" dog home, but remember, your schnauzer will be very territorial.

When we brought ours home, we introduced her to ther other two dogs one at a time. The standard poodle was so upset that she was hyperventalating for 2 weeks. We thought we would need to tranqualize her. In th eend she has become best friends with the schnauzer!

Jack is getting nuetered within the next 8 weeks so I am hoping that this will help him not to be so overly protective of his space.

What about adding a puppy instead of an adult dog, is the reaction the same or are all adult dogs more tolerant of puppies? He has never been around any puppies before. It may yet be a while before I add another dog to my household. But it never hurts to ask.

He just seems like he misses his brother terribly, and I guess I feel a bit guilty that I did not take them both, but at the time I could only afford to take 1 of them so I had to make a choice. If I had known then what I know now I would have taken them both. I guess that hindsight is always 20/20 huh.

In a perfect world, yes, you should have taken them both, but who knew. The standard poodle was an adult and the mini was just 8 weeks. That is why I think if you get them together before yu commit,it will help find a dog compatable with yours.

Well,

If you took them both well they wouldn't trust you, they would trust "eachother" because they are brothers, i know it is preety sad not to have tooken them both, but if you did you would have 2 dogs that dont listen to you. Yu can buy another one seperatly but not brothers or sisters!

I got that from my neighbor, she knows LOTS about dogs so that's how i know, if you need anyrhing else, Just ask me

I believe that you are correct about that, and I also believe that Jack would not have learned to housetrain or anything else that he has learned.

but it would have took you LONG
time!! You've done the right thing though, you took Jack. If you need any information about the schnauzer, you can ask me anytime

I have decided to wait until Jack is nuetered and recovered from his surgery before adding another dog to the home if at all. He really seems now to like getting all the attention.

His 3rd birthday is tommorow. He got some cow hooves, his favorite.
